Burlap and Grapevines

Burlap and Grapevines

September 18, 2017

"Twas the night before football season, when my Fantasy Team was set

Not a creature was stirring, not even my pet

I tried and I tried but I couldn't sleep

I was counting everything from Touchdowns to sheep

Wide eyed and restless but comfy in bed

As burlap and grapevines danced in my head"

Whoa!  Wait!  What???  Burlap and Grapevines?  Huh?  It's football season!

Ok.  Confession time.  I am THAT girl.  THAT girl that knows what her Christmas decorations are going to look like at the beginning of football season.  I am THAT girl that gathers her goods and on the Sunday before Thanksgiving....I know, the turkey isn't even thawed.....decorates the house for Christmas.  And, I'm THAT girl that catches flack for this, believe it or not.  I am sometimes accused of letting Thanksgiving pass by without celebration.  However, this Burlap and Grapevines thing could make me a genius.

Fall in Texas , to me, means pumpkins, Crotons, new plants for the outside containers, firewood, soup, the color orange, and you know, football.  So I thought with these things coming to mind, maybe I could somehow carry them into the Christmas season.....and my Holiday decor.  Burlap and Grapevines seemed to be the perfect fit.

I started with the Mantle as it is really the centerpiece of my Family Room.   You can see my pumpkins, a croton and firewood.  I found some really cool pumpkins that were made out of grapevines.  I think they fit in pretty well.  My mantle looks pretty "Fall-ish", huh?

Then comes the transformation into Christmas..........

I added a grapevine wreath and some garland.  I used  simple burlap ribbon, lights and a few orange and brown ornaments to spruce up the garland.  I handmade the burlap stockings with Stitch Witchery (if you do not know what this is, find out.  It's awesome.)  and some more ribbon.  They are hung by a thin curtain rod that is somewhat hidden in the garland.

Next came the tree.  I bought a few grapevine wreaths and cut them into pieces.  I wrapped the tree with the vines first and began to add the other ornaments and ribbon to create the look.

My Family Room and Kitchen Nook are really one big room so I dressed my windows and my kitchen table, too.  I used small grapevine wreaths and ribbon as a window treatment, and grapevine napkins rings, burlap placemats and runner on the table.  You can't really see the small cream colored plates on the table, but they match the cream platter that is sitting on the mantle.  I thought that was a pretty cool touch!

Then, I took some left over garland, wrapped it in lights, grapevine and ribbon, attached some more ornaments and ran it up my staircase.  No need to neglect the game room upstairs, right?

Usually, I finish off the decorating party with a cool wreath to go on the front door....you know, something that matches the rest of the decor?  But, I really liked the one I used last year so I used it again, and put my efforts into matching my gift wrapping to the rest of the house!  Luckily, I found some Christmas cards that had grapevines on them and used them to cut out initials for tags.

I was super excited to see all of this come together.  I didn't catch much flack, either, this year about speeding past Thanksgiving .....maybe because my color choice made it feel like both Holidays were rolled into one.

And, although it took a whole day to complete, it was worth missing a day of football.  My Fantasy Team won that day!!!
